Three Fluids to Check this Month

Posted July 20, 2016

Your vehicle has so many moving parts and fluids to keep these parts moving smoothly, it can be hard to keep track of the maintenance for all of them. That’s why our experienced technicians check and track the maintenance schedule for your vehicle – we keep track so you don’t have to, and you can still keep up with your vehicle’s needed preventative maintenance!

This month, check these three fluids to keep your vehicle running efficiently and smoothly during the hot summer in Fountain, Colorado.

Transmission Fluid

The transmission fluid in your vehicle should be a red-clear color. If it’s more a dark-red color, you’re risking one of the most expensive repairs possible—replacing your transmission! We recommend having the transmission fluid flushed every 20,000 miles at least. Regular inspections will let us know if this fluid needs to be addressed sooner based on the condition of your vehicle. Not sure when you last had the transmission serviced? Call us at 719.382.5691 and we’ll look up the records on your vehicle.

Engine Oil

A car’s engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. If you wait too long to do change your oil, the motor oil—even synthetic varieties—will begin to thicken and become corrosive. This can make it less effective at lubricating the engine and it may even leave behind deposits that can wreak havoc on your engine.

Antifreeze/Coolant

Coolant can look okay for some time, keeping that bright green color it had when it was originally put in your vehicle. But the damage may be resting at the bottom of the system. After you start your car, coolant begins to move through the system. Contaminants that settle to the bottom are mixed in with the fluid and flows through the engine.  When rust and corrosion set in, they can cause damage with thousands of dollars in repairs.

Don’t ignore your vehicle’s fluids! By keeping up on them, you will save time and money by preventing damage and breakdowns and avoiding expensive repairs. To have your fluids checked and review your maintenance schedule, request an appointment online or call our auto repair shop in Fountain at 719.382.5691.
