Visibility in the Fall

Posted September 6, 2020

The temperatures are starting to get lower and the sunsets are getting earlier which means autumn will soon be upon us here in Fountain! During this time of year, visibility becomes more and more important to ensure the safety of your family vehicle. Take these three steps to improve your visibility on the roads this fall:

1. Clean your car windshield and mirrors.
Top off your windshield washer fluid and take advantage of the cleaning supplies at the gas station when you fill up your tank. But don’t forget about the inside… the inside of the windshield can cause a many visibility problems as the dirt on the outside. Use a damp cloth with warm water to clean the interior. Always test cleaning products in an inconspicuous area to make sure they don’t leave behind residue or cause fogging on the inside of the windshield.

2. Check your windshield wiper blades.
The rubber blades on your windshield wipers should keep smooth contact with the surface of your windshield every time you turn them on. If they bump and skip, it’s time to have them replaced. If they leave streaks behind when it’s raining, your visibility will be compromised. Stop by D’s Auto & Truck Repair in Holland and our techs will replace your wiper blades and top off the windshield washer fluid. Make sure the wiper blades are ready BEFORE the first storm.

3. Test your headlights.
When was the last time you checked your headlights? Turn your lights on and walk around the car to make sure they are all working. This works better if you have a friend to help. While one turns on and off the various signals and lights, the other can make sure they’re working. If any of the lights are dull or burnt out, have them replaced so you can see and be seen on dark roads this fall.
